High glycemic ingredients and foods like any type of sugar (especially white processed sugar and high fructose corn syrups or any corn syrups), sweeteners like honey, maple syrup, fruit juices, fruit syrups and even excess consumption of fruits will cause sugar-handling issues within the body chemistry which will eventually lead to increased fat storage.

A good rule to follow, if you are craving sugary foods, you are usually stressed, have a protein meal and/or exercise and the sugary cravings will subside. Natural zero calorie sweeteners like stevia, erythritol, xylitol, luo han guo (monk fruit) and low glycemic sweeteners like coconut nectar and molasses are good alternatives to high glycemic sweeteners and foods, but they also should be used in minimal moderation and if possible do not use them at all if you do not need them to “survive”.
